Progressive Aerodyne Searey History :

The Progressive Aerodyne Searey is a home built kit produced from Progressive Aerodyne, Inc. based in Florida. Being a kit built aircraft technically it is considered an experimental aircraft. The aircraft uses pontoons on the wing tips for stabilization in rough water. It has a fabric covered wing and a riveted together fiberglass, carbon graphite hull. The Progressive Aerodyne Searey is an amphibious aircraft with a retractable landing gear for water landings. The landing gear is produced in three types, the Johnson type (A manually operated deployment system), hydraulic or electric actuator. The most popular is the electrically actuated but the manual is still the lightest.

The Searey’s engine is a top mounted Rotax. Several models are used from the 582 Dual Ignition to the 914 Turbo Charged engine. The landing gear is unique as it uses a main landing gear and a tail wheel for land operation. All three wheels are raised for water operation and lowered for land operation. The aircraft is so versatile it can land in the water with the gear retracted, lower the gear while still in the water and taxi out of the water on the landing gear. A great muti-purpose aircraft.
