Mitsubishi MU-2B-60 History :

When Japan wanted to build a twin engine Corporate/Business and or a Military type Aircraft they turned to the Mitsubishi Company. The designed produced the MU-2 one of postwar Japan's most successful aircraft. The work began in 1956 to build a twin engined Turboprop that would suit the Civil and Military roles Japan needed. First flight happened on September 14, 1963 Powered by Turbomeca Astazou Turboprops. Civilan versions were powered by the Garret Turboprop and certified as variants of the MU-2B. Mitsubishi moved their production facility to San Angelo, Texas in 1986 to capture the American Market. Over 750 Production Units were sold.

Several variants of the MU-2 were produced. From stretching the airframe to adding more powerful engine for Military use. Currently Japan operates the largest Military Fleet.
