Lockheed KC-130T Hercules History : The Lockheed C-130 Hercules, by far one of the most recognized aircraft in the world, is a four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft built by Lockheed. It was mainly built as a cargo transport, troop carrying and/or medical evacuation aircraft . Its capabilities didn’t stop there as the years went on. Other uses have been as a gun ship, airbore assault, search and rescue, scientific research, weather reconnaissance, aerial refueling, maritime patrol and aerial firefighting. No other aircraft has seen more variations than the Hercules. It remains one of the main tactical aircraft for militaries around the world. The aircraft has been in production for more than 50 years. The latest version is the C130J. The Hercules has shown it advanced and power, with the four new Allison Engines installed by performing a taken off and landed aboard the USS Forrestal aircraft carrier. The C-130T affectionately called Fat Albert were built for the US Navy and the USMC with external fuel tanks to increase the range. The “T” Model also has numerous avionics improvements, even night vision system capabilities. The US Navy uses one Fat Albert as a support aircraft for the US Navy Blue Angels flight demonstration team. Although it supports a US Navy flight team the crew is totally USMC. From time to time during air shows Fat Albert thrills the crowd with demonstrations using Jet Assisted Take-off (JATO) with rockets attached to the rear fuselage. |
