Gulfstream IV History :

The Gulfstream IV (or G-IV) one of the first really Custom Designed Corporate Aircraft and it’s derivatives are a family of private jet aircraft produced by Gulfstream Aerospace, a General Dynamics company based in Savannah, Georgia, United States. The G-IV one of the larger Business/Corporate aircraft that entered into service with serial number 1000 in 1987 and was upgraded to the G IV-SP at serial number 1214 in 1993. Several variants of the aircraft followed. Short range models as well as long range models were manufactured.

After the “G” Series the G400 came down the production line. This Custom Made aircraft had long range of 4,350 nautical miles and with the same comfort as the “G” Series. A cruise speed of Mach.88 was achieved at an altitude of 45,000 feet. This gave the aircraft further role capabilities. The U.S. Military variant of the G IV was operated by the U.S. Army in a V.I.P. role and designated as the G 20G Aircraft. It was also used to carry cargo or 26 passengers or a combination of the two.

One G IV was fitted to be operated by The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to fly scientists and crew members at 45,000 feet around tropical cyclones. The aircraft is used to drop instruments to measure wind speed, barometric pressure, temperature and humidity. The data is used to track cyclones for the National Hurricane Center and Hurricane research Division. The instruments are also used to detect and measure wind shear. The aircraft meets this mission because it is fast, can fly at high altitude and has excellent range.

The G IV aircraft was used in 1990, with Gulfstream CEO Allen E. Paulson on board and a Gulfstream to fly around the world. During the flight 35 international records were obtained.
