Cessna 172 Skyhawk History The Cessna 172 Skyhawk is a single-engine, four-seat, fix-wing aircraft and was powered by the six cylinder Continental O-300, before this engine was replaced by the four cylinder Lycoming O-320. First flight of the Cessna 172 Skyhawk was in November 1955. The Cessna 172 Skyhawk became sudden success and over 1400 were built in 1956.
