History of the Aircraft Model Learjet 35A:Developed from the successful Learjet 23/24/25 series of aircraft, this twin-turbofan light business jet and special-missions aircraft is larger than the Learjet 25 and features the turbofan Garrett TFE731 engines and a slightly bigger wing, and additional window on right side of fuselage. The prototype was originally known as the Learjet 26 and first flew on January 4,1973, with customer deliveries started in the summer 1974. The production total for the Learjet 35/36 series was 710 aircraft of a number of variants. Features off this aircraft included a low straight wing with tapered leading edge and tip tanks and the twin rear fuselage-mounted Garrett TFE731 turbofans. Styling included a swept T-tail and tail plane with five cabin windows on right side, four on left. Learjet 35/36 variants included a number of military customers. The initial production for this series was the Learjet 35. The Learjet 35A featured a redesigned wing for better short-field performance and the Learjet 36 with long-range capabilities and increased fuel capacity. The Learjet 36A featured the same wing modifications as the Learjet 35A. The United States Air Force operates the C-21A, as an operational support aircraft and is a military version of the Learjet Model 35A. The JASDF operates the U-36A as a liaison & training aircraft. The Learjet 35A/36A is operated by a number of militaries as a special mission aircraft. |
