Cessna 340 History:

It was now time for Cessna to consider the Business Aircraft Market. After several design attempts the Cessna 340 twin piston engine, pressurized business aircraft was born. Two versions were produced the Cessna 335 an unpressurized version, which appears the same externally as the 340 which never gained the popularity of the pressurized version.

The Cessna 340 is a six seat aircraft carring four passenger and two corporate pilots. The greatest selling point of the Cessna 340 was it's spacious cabin including a walkable aisle and an airstair door. The earlier models incorportated two turbocharged Continental TSIO-520-K engine with 285 Horse Power. In 1976 the engine were upgraded to the more powerful Continental TSIO-520-NB engines sporting 310 Horse Power. With the new engines installed the aircraft became known as the Cessna 340A. Although the Cessna 335 the lower priced version of the 340 aircraft was one of the better twin engine turbo powered aircraft on the market it never really gain any poplarithy. Only 64 units were produced and production ended in 1980. The Cessna 340 was a much more popular aircraft with it's larger engines and pressurised Cabin it gained the better popularity and remained in production until 1984 after Cessna had manufactured 1,287 aircraft.
