Boeing 737-800 History :

The Boeing 737 was designed in 1964 and first flew in 1967 as a short to medium range, single aisle, narrow body, twin engine jet airliner. It was marketed as a replacement for the Boeing 707 and 727. There are nine variants of the Boeing 737 the -600, -700, -800 and -900 currently in production. As of April 2009 the Boeing 737 has been continuously manufactured with over 6,000 aircraft delivered and an order book of over 2,000 waiting assembly and delivery. At any given time there are some 1,250 Boeing 737 aircraft flying to their destination. It is believed that at least one Boeing 737 is either taking off or landing somewhere in the world every five seconds. This gives the aircraft the claim as the most popular airliner ever built.
