Cessna 172RG Cutlass History:

If you were looking for the aircraft that has been built more than any other aircraft in the world look no further, it is by far The Cessna 172 Skyhawk. The Cessna 172 was first flown in 1955 as a four seat, single engine, high wing aircraft. The Cessna 172 was modeled after the Cessna 170 tail dragger with only a basic level of standard flight instruments. There were over 1,400 Cessna 172’s built during the first year of production.

In 1982 Cessna introduced the Cessna 172RG Cutlass with a retractable landing gear. The aircraft also had a variable pitch, constant speed propeller. Engine power was increased with the Lycoming O-360-F1A6 engine of 180 horsepower installed. This increased the cruise speed to over 140 knots compared to 122 knots of the earlier 172’s. The Cutlass severed well with many flight schools as an advanced trainer. More than 1,117 Cessna 172 RG Cutlass aircraft were produced.
