Grumman G-164C History :

Some consider the Grumman Ag-Cat as one of the most successful agriculture aircraft ever built. They have been in production since 1959. The aircraft was developed in the mid 1950’s however, it was quite a few years later that the first prototype took that first flight In 1957. There were about 400 aircraft delivered since then with a variety of engines.

Following the original Ag-Cat came the Ag-Cat G164A and then the Ag-Cat G164 C. This aircraft had the more power with the Pratt and Whitney R 985 engine installed producing 450 Hp. The greater horse power gave the aircraft greater maximum take-off weight and allowed for additional fuel. Later the Pratt and Whitney Canada Turbo Prop PT6A was installed and the aircraft was designated the Ag-Cat D Model.

The rights to build the aircraft have been sold many times. From Grumman to Schweizer back to the newly formed company Grumman American and finally to the Ag-Cat Corp of Malden, Missouri. The aircraft has seen many manufacturers and been used in many rolls from spraying crops, banner towing , firefighting and even to air shows.
