USS Dwight D Eisenhower CVN-69 was named followed to Dwight D. Eisenhower, the 34th President of the United States. It was the second of 10 in the class of nuclear power driven aircraft carriers in the field of the United States Navy. The aged USS Franklin D. Roosevelt aircraft carrier was replaced by the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower in the navy. At first, the power driven carrier was designated to the U.S. Atlantic navy and in January 1979, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower was navigating for the first time to the Mediterranean Sea. After six months of navigation, the carrier was returned to Norfolk Naval Station.
