Bell 412 Helicopter History

The Bell 412 helicopter is a utility helicopter manufactured by the Bell Helicopter Division of Textron Inc., and was developed from the ever popular work horse of helicopters, the Bell 212, and the major difference between the two helicopters is the composite four blade main rotor of the 412. The Bell 412 first flew in August 1979 and received FAA Type Certification in January 1981 and deliveries started that same month. The original 412 was replaced by the 412SP (Special Performance) version with a larger fuel capacity and a higher take-off weight and an optional seating arrangement. Bell?s next variant was in 1991 with the introduction of the 412HP (High Performance) version which had an improved transmission and it replaced the 412SP version as the production model. The current production model is the 412EP (Enhanced Performance) version which is equipped with a dual digital automatic flight control system. The 412EPI was introduced in 2013 which included an electronic engine control (FADEC) for a Pratt and Whitney Canada PT6T-9 engine upgrade and a glass cockpit display system similar to the Bell 429 helicopter. It also featured a Garmin touch-screen navigation system and the BLR Strake and Fast Fin upgrades for improved hover performance. The Bell 412 can cruise at 140 miles per hour for a distance of 463 miles and can accommodate a crew of two and thirteen passengers.

Testimonials

Mike,

I can not tell you how happy I am with this model and your service. The model arrived in only a few days and in perfect condition. It was well packed in custom cut foam.

Now to the model itself, this is no ordinary mass produced product. It is a very high quality and detailed model with accuracy only a carefully researched custom model builder could have produced.

During 1967-1969 I was assigned to the 552nd Wing at Korat Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand. We flew these aircraft for MIG hunting, surveillance etc. I know this aircraft. This particular model bears the tail number 53-0555. I actually maintained that aircraft. Not just one like it, BUT IT. The detail is astounding. The paint color is perfect, as if you had a bucket of govt. paint. The de-icer boots are correctly placed and painted black where they should be. The tail number is correct. This one is actually a historically significant one. The aircraft displays the Air Force "Outstanding Unit Citation" ribbon. The model also has the correct windows/doors and front wheel well markings.

Please use my comments anywhere you like. I am very fortunate to have found this model, through Providence, over the others available.

A Proud owner,
Bill Donovan

Dear Mike

The model of M-ELON, the first aircraft registered in the Isle of Man, arrived yesterday and it is superb! I never expected such quality, thank you very much for being at EBACE and allowing me to order it!

Hope to meet you again in Geneva next May.

Kind regards,
Brian
