Boeing 787-800 Dreamliner History:

The Boeing 787-800 is a long-range, mid-size wide-body, twin-engine jet airliner developed and built by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. It is capable of carrying from 210 to 335 passengers depending on the configuration of the airframe and has a range of up to 9,030 miles. The typical cruise speed of the 787-800 is 567 miles per hour, but has a maximum speed of 593 miles per hour. Boeing has significantly decreased the external and internal noise of the Dreamliner by using noise reducing materials on the air inlets and exhaust duct covers with a chevron-toothed pattern on the rim for a quieter mixing of exhaust and outside air. Engines on the Dreamliner can be changed out within 24 hours and can be either a Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 or a General Electric GEnx due to the use of a standard electrical interface for both engines. Dreamliner aircraft are constructed using mostly lightweight composite materials (Boeing says 50%), while the other materials used are aluminium (20%), titanium (15%), steel (10%), and others (5%). The Dreamliner first flew on 15 December, 2009, but it did not enter into commercial service until 26 October, 2011. The first commercial flight was from Narita to Hong Kong by All Nippon Airways and tickets for the flight were auctioned off on line. The highest bid for a seat was US$34,000. A Dreamliner test aircraft set a new no-stop world distance record of 10,710 nautical miles, or 19,830 kilometers, from Boeing Field to Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, Bangladesh on December 6, 2011. It then continued on eastward, returning to Boeing Field and setting a world-circling speed record of 42 hours 27 minutes. The first Dreamliner was unveiled at a roll-out ceremony on July 8, 2007 at Boeing’s Everett assembly factory by which time it had 677 on order. This is more orders from launch to roll-out than any other wide-body airliner.
