Cessna 550 Citation II History

The Cessna Citation II was the first of the model 550 series of Citation jets. It was a light corporate jet that was developed from the highly successful Citation I. Being a stretched version of the Citation I, the Citation II could accommodate 10 people (2 crew and 8 passengers), had more powerful engines, increased fuel capacity, faster speeds, and significantly longer range. The Citation II first flew on 31 January, 1977 and received FAA Full Type Certification for two pilot operations in March 1978. This aircraft could cruise at 464 miles per hour and had a range of 2,300 miles. The Citation II was later certified for single pilot operations which allowed it to compete with the single pilot turboprop aircraft and was designated as the Citation II/SP. This version was later upgraded again with more powerful engines, greater fuel capacity, and the wing was replaced with one that used a supercritical airfoil for improved aerodynamics. This version was designated as the Model S550 Citation S/II and it replaced the Citation II in the production line, however the Citation II was returned to production in 1987 due to market demands. The Citation S/II production was discontinued after the 1988 production year. Citation II?s production continued until 1994 and was replaced by the Citation Bravo in late 1996. The Bravo had more powerful engines and the landing gear was replaced by a smoother-riding trailing link configuration that was used by the other Citation jets. Production of the Bravo continued until 2006. From 1978 until 2006, a total of 940 aircraft of all Citation II variants were built!

Testimonials

Hello Mike:

The Martin model arrived on friday while I was at work. I am very impressed. I have to say I was somewhat sceptical of a wood model based upon some samples I have seen from other suppliers. Your listing photos looked like the model was a reasonably good rendition of the plane type that I had flown on many years ago. The model exceeded my expectations in every way. I could go on and on but you get the idea.

I will be looking to see if you offer the TWA Connie again. If I can afford it I will get one.

Many thanks,
Mike Haywood ( wpmike )

Dear FDM Team. Thank you very much for my model of Mount Cook Airline BAe748.

The attention to detail of the flower (rununculus lyallii) on the tail empennage sets the model off perfectly.

I am also very impressed with the meticulous packaging ensuring minimal chance of damage in the event of rough handling.

A picture of the model has been posted on my personal, and aviation interest (The Mount Cook Group Ltd) Facebook pages. Also links to your web page. I hope this may generate business for you.

In sincere appreciation
