Pilatus PC-12/47 NG History

The Pilatus PC-12 is a single-engine turbo-prop passenger and cargo aircraft manufactured by Pilatus Aircraft of Switzerland. Pilatus started developing the PC-12 in 1989 and the first two prototypes were completed in May 1991. The maiden flight of the PC-12 was on 31 May 1991. Certification of the PC-12 was delayed due to a redesigning of the wings where they increased the wing span and added winglets to ensure performance guarantees were met. Finally on 15 July 1994 FAA Full Type Certification was received for the PC-12. Pilatus offers the PC-12 with a standard nine seat airliner configuration, a four seat/cargo combo version, and a six seat corporate transport version with the option of a seventh seat by adding a three place bench seat in place of seats 5 and 6. In October 2007, Pilatus introduced the PC-12 NG (Next Generation) which had a more powerful Pratt and Whitney Canada PT6A-67P engine with a better climb performance and an increase maximum cruise speed to 280 kts TAS. The NG also features a Honeywell Primus Apex glass cockpit. The new cockpit includes automatic pressurization control as well as cursor controlled inputs to the navigation system. The winglets on the new PC-12 NG models were also modified. The PC-12 NG can cruise at 322 miles per hour for a distance of 1,753 miles with a full load of nine passengers and a crew of two.

Testimonials

Danica – I wanted to tell you that I could not be any more pleased or impressed with the quality of the Piper J3 Cub on floats that your team built for me. It is very finely detailed and I am sure that I must have driven the builder(s) nuts with all the details like the exposed wiring harness, air scoops, cleats, bracing wires, exhaust, painted steps, the type of numbers on the tail, fuel caps, placards, cowling and rib detail etc – but whomever did it nailed it! What an absolutely beautiful job. The details are just stunning and really make it a model of my plane. I will enjoy this model long after I have stopped flying – and I still have a lot of flying left in me! If you could please thank whomever worked on it and let them know how very much I appreciate all the hard work they put into it I would really appreciate it. True craftsmen (and women?) are to be admired and whomever built my model is at the top of their profession. Best regards, Gary Jennings
