USS Edenton (ATS 1) Rescue & Salvage Ship History:

USS EDENTON was the first of three Rescue and Salvage Ships built for the US Navy by a British shipyard. Decommissioned after 25 years of service on March 29, 1996, the EDENTON was transfered to the US Coast Guard on November 18, 1997, and was subsequently stricken from the Navy list on December 29, 1997. After conversion, the EDENTON was commissioned by the Coast Guard on July 10, 1999, and is now serving as USCGC ALEX HALEY (WMEC 39).
