Cirrus SR-22 History:

The Cirrus team, from co-founders Alan and Dale Klapmeier down to workers on the assembly floor, are focused on building not the most advanced general aviation airplane in the world, but the safest general aviation airplane in the world.Sure, every aircraft manufacturer strives to build a safe, reliable airplane. But at Cirrus, they’re using safety as a competitive advantage, and in the end, the customer benefits. The Cirrus fleet is the only production GA aircraft that comes with an airframe parachute system, and the airplane is designed with crumple zones—very much like modern cars—so that it sacrifices the airplane to protect passengers in case of an accident.

The 310-horsepower, normally-aspirated engine can carry 1,150 pounds of people, luggage and fuel, and the airplane cruises at 180 knots. It has two wide doors that swing up and forward, making it easy for elderly family members and children to scamper in and out of the roomy interior. The trunk door is exceptionally large for a four-seat GA airplane, and it easily accommodates large suitcases, a garment bag, golf clubs or even an unruly child, if the need warrants.

Available options are again focused on safety and luxury, including the Avidyne Entegra Primary Flight Display, which includes standard flight instrumentation, including attitude indicator, horizontal situation indicator, altitude, airspeed, vertical speed, moving map, weather, terrain and traffic on high-resolution, full-color displays. Other options include a TKS-based weeping wing ice protection system, a WX-500 Stormscope, and Skywatch Traffic information.

The SR22 is easy to fly and remarkably fast, earning it a following among doctors, lawyers and other professionals who are either new to general aviation travel, or who are transitioning up from less capable airplanes. To help new pilots make the switch to this truly high-performance airplane, Cirrus offers training at its Duluth facility as part of every new airplane delivery. This adds up to an airplane that has some of the most advanced safety technology in the industry, giving the modern pilot every advantage when it comes to getting there in style, safety and comfort.
